Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common cause of respiratory illness. It can be particularly serious for young babies and older adults, sometimes leading to bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and hospital admission.

A new vaccine is now available to help protect those most at risk.

For Pregnant Women

If you are 28 weeks pregnant or more, you are now eligible for a free RSV vaccine to help protect your baby from severe illness in the first weeks of life.

  • The vaccine is safe for both you and your baby
  • A new dose is needed in each pregnancy
  • Speak to your midwife, maternity team, or GP surgery to arrange your vaccination

For Older Adults

A single RSV vaccine dose is now being offered to people aged 75 to 79, who are at increased risk of serious illness from RSV.

  • Eligible patients will be invited, but you do not need to wait to be invited if you’re eligible
  • The vaccine is available throughout the year
  • It helps reduce the risk of severe illness and complications
